Field Stone Wall House, Galway

The design was conceived as a series of parallel stone walls that fit within the rural setting in the West of Ireland. The project considered how such a building could ‘grow’ from the site and in terms of scale, materials, colour and landscape.

Inspired by the rural location and stone wall construction, the design is conceived as two perpendicular volumes with the upper floor finished in Corten Steel sitting on top of a stone base. Large sections of glazing are then carved out of the volumes, to flood the internal spaces with daylight. The natural materiality is carried inside the house with board marked concrete and natural stone tiling throughout.

The building featured extensively in media, was a finalist in RTE Home of the Year , and won the RIAI Public Choice Award 2021.
