Marian House

Marian House is a Respite Home for Alzheimers patients located in Ballindine, County Mayo. The original building was constructed at the end of the 90’s.

The new extension, recently completed, includes 13 new bedrooms, 2 Day Rooms and ancillary spaces.

The design was centred on the welfare and safety of the patients, who require a calm and homely environment.

The new extension forms a new enclosed and protected courtyard to allow the patients to enjoy the outdoor without risk.

Two east and west facing bedroom wings are connected by a glazed and GluLam Dayroom facing the courtyard and the sloped green field at the rear.

The large volume of the new single-story building is visually reduced to  more suitable scale by way of a combination of individual pitched roofs with top lit glazing over circulation spaces.

The external finishes and colour palette provide a contemporary building integrated with the rural surrounding.
